Would you sell pictures of your kids?
Hey Everyone
I’m in a bit of a sales slump at the moment and am pondering the issues involved in attempting to sell stock photos of one’s family and children. What are the issues? Does it make sense? Would one cringe if one saw a photo of ones 2 year old on a billboard on the local interstate? Are their privacy issues? Can stalkers use the photo to do harm to ones children or family? Is it right to profit from ones family or kids, possibly without their permission? Should one have to resort to using ones own family for stock photos? Shouldn’t one be able to think of something else to take pictures of?
I would *really* appreciate hearing from all of you about what you think regarding this. I’d like to make a decision soon about whether or not to submit some of by better shots of the kids.
Thanks!
:)

I do it. Or at least plan to do it. Don’t think any any of my kids shots are up on any sites right now. Had some on Lucky Oliver but now they’re gone. My biggest problem is the model release, I need to get a generically acceptable one together that I can use for all sites. The problem there is some of the sites require two witnesses so need to meet the most stringent requirements.
More importantly, how does you wife feel about it? Since the children will be minors a parent or guardian needs to sign for them and I don’t like signing as the photographer and parent, but guess it could be acceptable.

Awesome, thanks Allen. My wife’s on the fence - which is part of the reason I’ve posted these questions

hi
If you think that you will ever take pictures of kids, not necessarily yours, than you should consider taking pictures of yours. you will never be able to take picture of any kid if you don’t do it with yours.
Parents (including my wife) ask me to take pictures of their kids, because they want pro images of them (for free). I have neither time no will (motivation) to take pro pictures of my kids without the income involved. everybody including, kids and grandparents are happy for the pro documentation of the growing family.

I say yes. I’d be willing for them to take pictures of me when they grow up. We could call it even. — Unfortunately, there’s probably little demand for a bald and toothless old man.
Buy them a new toy with the profits?
Now, I should clarify that fully clothed family pictures is an important consideration. If we’re talking about my wife being an underwear model, I’d draw the line.
